Welcome to Myanmar (Burma)



Myanmar is the traditional name which has been used by its people to describe their homeland. the British called the country Burma and Burmese for the people. The land is known as the Golden Land not only for its golden pagoda but also for its rich natural resources and diversity of attractions.

Early civilization in Myanmar dated back to the 1st century with archaeological evidence of the Pyu kingdoms. Myanmar's the first and greatest Empire was founded by king Anawrahta in 11th century and it last until the end of 13th century with its capital in Bagan. The second Myanmar Empire with its capital, Bago was created by king Bayinnaung in the middle of the 16th century and king Alaungpaya founded the last Myanmar Empire with its capital, Mandalay in 1752. After three times of Anglo-Myanmar war, Myanmar became British colony. Japanese occupied Myanmar during World War II and Myanmar Attained independence on 4th January 1948.

Myanmar has 7 states and 7 divisions and it is a Union of over 135 ethnic groups. Each group has their own dialect and the major ethnic groups are Bamar, Chin, Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Mon, Rakhine and Shan.

Germany – Yangon Direct Airway on Every Tuesday

Germany based Condor Flugdien Airline will be flying 2 planes from Frankfurt, Germany to Yangon every Tuesday starting from Nov 6, 2012. Route will be Frankfurt – Yangon – Phuket – Frankfurt.

Sea Game 2013

Myanmar will host SEA GAME 2013 and it will be held at Yangon, Mandalay, Ngwesaung Beach and Naypyidaw from 12 December to 22 December.

Additional Fuel Surcharge

All domestic airlines will increase Additional Fuel Surcharge (YR) effective from 01 May 2012.

New Sanctuary in Salin Township

Wat The Kan (Kan means lake) in Salin Township, Magway Division is now regarded as sanctuary by Ministry of Forest to conserve endangered species of more than seventy kind of birds.

All Nippon Airway to Yangon

The biggest Japan Airline ANA (All Nippon Airway) is planning to fly from Narita Airport, Tokyo, Japan to Yangon in near future that has been stopped flying for 12 years.

Myanmar-Lao Mekhong River Bridge Project Agreement

Now agreement comes to an end to build a bridge across Mekhong River between Myanmar and Lao Nations.

E-Visa on April last week

Tourists can apply E-Visa (VOA) at the end of this month; April by www.myanmarevisa.gov.mm .

USD 10,000 needs no declaration

Foreigners do not need to declare if they carry not more than USD 10,000 at the Customs Department, Myanmar International Airport starting from 1 April 2012 to Myanmar.

Yangon - Chiang Mai flight

Air Bagan will resume its flight of Yangon - Chiang Mai on every Thursday and Sunday from 01 May 2012 to 30 September 2012.
